After I left school....oooh...a long time ago, apart from doing lots of other crafty things, such as jewellery making, sewing, knitting, crochet, card making etc etc, I didn't really do much drawing and no painting at all. That was until a year and a half or so ago, when I was going through a stressful time and I got into Art Journalling, as a means of expressing my feelings and documenting what I was going through in a positive way. I found it very freeing and because it was personal and only really meant for me I didn't care whether it was "rubbish" or not. Because I was drawing and painting every day and I watched alot of You Tube videos that were inspiring, my skills developed and I could see big improvements in my abilities. Practice makes perfect they say. Well, I don't think my work is perfect and on the other hand I don't think it's rubbish either. I'm getting better all the time and best thing of all is I'm proud of my achievements and I've done it for me, not for anyone else. One of the most valuable lessons that I learnt that "it's not ability I lacked, but confidence". I've been saying this alot lately, when I I'm delivering my workshops as some people are sometimes a bit timid, and so far, I've been able to coax even the shyest newbie crafter to create something wonderful that they can be proud of. That's such a good feeling.
With all this in mind, I've decided to create a gallery of my art work. I admit I'm no DaVinci, but I find Art Journalling extremely therapeutic and there's something very cathartic about getting all messy with paint and inks. It's helped me through some very difficult times and I just wish I had been more confident when I was at school. But, if I can help others to be inspired as I have, then all that teenage creative angst will not have been in vain.
